Repair Cafe
A Repair Café is a place where people gather to work on repairing objects of everyday life such as electrical and mechanical devices, bicycles, clothing, and other items. Repair Cafés are typically held at community locations where tools are available and where people can fix their broken goods with the help of volunteers. Repair Cafés are a part of the grassroots movement that aims to reduce waste, overconsumption, and planned obsolescence and they can ignite an "I can do it" spirit and strengthen social cohesion.
The Maker Space at Freetown Farm is the new home of the Transition Howard County monthly Repair Cafe. Do you have items in your house that need fixing or mending but you don't know how to fix them yourself? Bring your broken items such as toasters, lamps, clothing, jewelry, vacuum cleaners or small appliances to the Transition Repair Café! Volunteers will evaluate and fix as many of them as they can for FREE. Volunteers will also be available to answer questions about repairs on items that are too large or not possible to bring in. If you have any questions please email makerspace@cei.earth.
