Fostering Healthy Communities

through Connection with Nature

The Community Ecology Institute (or our flagship program Columbia Families in Nature) has received financial support from: the Columbia Association, the Chesapeake Bay Trust, the Toyota-Audubon TogetherGreen Fellowship, the Wyncote Foundation, and Patapsco Heritage Greenway.

The following organizations have provided their time & talent to collaborate with CEI/CFIN on offering specific programs: the Columbia Association, the Audubon Society of Central Maryland, Howard County Recreation & Parks, the Howard County Library System, Transition Howard County, Building Families for Children, and Healthy Families Howard County.

For example:

  • We are recently completed a Chesapeake Bay Trust outreach and restoration grant to offer monthly watershed exploration and education events. We collaborated with the Columbia Association, Howard County Recreation and Parks department, and Patapsco Heritage Greenway to conduct civic ecology practices such as tree planting and watershed monitoring as a part of the series.
  • We collaborated with the Audubon Society of Central Maryland and the Howard County Library System to engage under served teens in an after school program to under take a school-year long program to design and create a pollinator garden on the library grounds.
